I went to a Catholic elementary school.

We went to church once a week.

We went to the church and practiced singing songs the day before or one of the days leading up to mass.

If I remember correctly, I think we called it church practice.

I still remember some of the hymns and occasionally sing them to myself.

There’s one that has stuck with me and makes sense to me:

Jesus Walked This Lonesome Valley

  1. Jesus walked this lonesome valley;
    he had to walk it by himself.
    Oh, nobody else could walk it for him;
    he had to walk it by himself.
  2. We must walk this lonesome valley;
    we have to walk it by ourselves.
    Oh, nobody else can walk it for us;
    we have to walk it by ourselveves.

Life can be hard.

Life can be chaotic and confusing.

Life doesn’t always make sense.

Life can be lonely.

But this is our journey.

Nobody can walk it for us.

We have to walk it by ourselves.

If we walk, keep walking, and don’t stop walking, we will end up in a good place.
